Description

A chimney sweeping certificate is the sweep’s written record that the flue has been swept to the national industry standard, and it’s what the homeowner produces when their insurer asks for proof. Most buildings and contents policies covering a solid fuel or wood burning appliance require evidence of regular sweeping, and a claim after a chimney fire is where the absence of one gets noticed. Handing over a properly filled certificate at the end of the visit is what separates a professional sweep from a man with a brush.

Our personalised chimney sweeping certificates are printed in full colour on A4 NCR paper, 50 duplicate sets per book, with your company name, logo, contact details and sweep association membership number printed on every set. The form records the re-sweep due date by fuel type, sweeping method used, appliance and fuel type, deposit removed from the flue, condition of the pot, terminal and stack, CCTV inspection, carbon monoxide alarm present, ventilation compliance, smoke evacuation result, and a customer signature confirming the site was left clean.

Free design service

We offer a free design service based on this template (logo design not included), or we can print your own ready-to-print artwork at no extra cost. Our pads are perforated and stapled at the top for a professional finish, but we can glue them instead if you prefer — just let us know. See our full range of NCR forms.

Free sequential numbering

Numbering can be included free of charge. Just tell us how you need them numbered and we’ll set it up.

How to prevent copy bleed-through

A white 400gsm board is included with each pad to place between sets, preventing anything copying onto the next set.

Chimney sweeping certificate FAQs

Do I need a chimney sweep certificate for insurance?

Most home insurance policies covering a solid fuel, wood burning or multi-fuel appliance require the chimney to be swept regularly by a professional, and the certificate is the evidence. Insurers rarely ask to see it until there’s a claim — which is exactly when a missing one becomes expensive for the homeowner. Giving the customer a certificate at the end of every visit is the point of the document.

How often should a chimney be swept?

Solid fuel, smokeless fuel and biomass at least once a year, house coal at least twice a year, wood burning appliances quarterly when in use, and gas or oil appliances once a year. The certificate has a re-sweep due date on it so the customer knows when to book again — which is also the simplest way to generate repeat work.

What should a chimney sweeping certificate include?

The sweep’s business name, contact details and association membership number, the date and time of the sweep, the customer’s name and the address and location of the chimney, the appliance and fuel type, the sweeping method used, the deposit removed, the condition of the pot, terminal and stack, the results of any CCTV inspection and smoke evacuation check, whether a carbon monoxide alarm is present, ventilation compliance, and the customer’s signature.

Is a chimney sweeping certificate a legal requirement?

There’s no statute requiring one, but it functions as a legal document in practice. It’s your evidence of what you found and what you advised, it’s the customer’s evidence for their insurer, and letting agents and landlords are routinely asked for it as part of a property’s safety records under their duty of care to tenants.

Can I have my association membership number printed on the certificate?

Yes. Your membership number, logo, business name and contact details are printed in full colour on both the top copy and the customer’s copy, at no extra cost. Send us the details or use our free design service and we’ll email a digital proof before printing.

Chimney sweeps often order these alongside our personalised invoice books and quote and estimate books.
